Honeymoon-ing

We had a wonderful honeymoon trip visiting friends and family on the east coast.

Leg 1-Villa Rica/Atlanta/Douglasville/Tallapoosa, GA
We started our honeymoon in Georgia. We were fortunate to be able to stay with our friends, Emily and Michael Herdt, in Villa Rica. Emily and Michael are high school friends of mine, and I was glad that Matthew got to meet them and spend some time with them. We also spent time in downtown Atlanta, in my old stomping grounds of Douglasville (visiting former teachers and friends at Chapel Hill High School), and ended in Tallapoosa for the beautiful wedding of Alison and Ben Butler.

Matthew and I at the Georgia Aquarium. It is the largest aquarium in the world and we were quite impressed. Our favorite part was the dolphin show. I have decided that if teaching doesn't work out, I would like to be a dolphin trainer.
Since this was Matthew's first trip to the south, we were sure to eat at the greasiest of all fast food restaurants, The Varsity. For those of you who have never been to The Varsity, this is an experience all in itself. For those of you that have, you can understand why I decided to bring Matthew to this iconic restaurant in Atlanta.
Outside of Turner Field. Thanks to Chrissy Rice for bringing us up to the offices and showing Matthew around my Dad's old stomping grounds.

In Tallapoosa, GA for a lovely wedding. The weather was perfect and there was little humidity. Matthew enjoyed GA, but I don't think that he got a fair representation of just how humid the south can be, as the weather was quite tolerable the entire time we were there.

Leg 2-Raleigh, NC
After leaving GA, we headed norther to Raleigh to visit Elizabeth Robson and Kevin Hopwood. Elizabeth was a bridesmaid in our wedding, but work prevented her and Kevin from spending more than 24 hours in CO for our wedding. With this in mind, we planned to spend a few days in Raleigh to have some quality time with them both. We had a wonderful time exploring Raleigh and eating delicious foods.
We stopped by to see the Nana and had a lovely tour of her apartment.
Enjoying our time with Elizabeth and Kevin.

Leg 3-New York, NY
We spent the last leg of our honeymoon in New York City. We did a lot of walking and sight seeing, visited the new 9/11 Memorial (in the rain), saw a show off-Broadway (Avenue Q), and spent some time with my best friend, Nicole (who lives in the city). We stayed in the middle of Time Square and were truly amazed that the street is constantly buzzing, even at 2:00 in the morning.

We thoroughly enjoyed our travels and were happy to spend the extra time with friends before Matthew leaves for boot camp. Thanks to everyone's hospitality while we were on our trip!
