Matthew settled into Tech School last night at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX. He will spend approximately 2 months there while he completes his first part of his technical training on the KC-10 Stratotanker (the aircraft he has been assigned to be the Crew Chief). He will tentatively complete the first part of his training at Sheppard on February 28. After completing the first part
of his training, he will travel to either McGuire AFB in Wrightstown, NJ
or Travis AFB in Fairfield, CA for his on-sight training. He will complete 32 work days of hands-on training and then will travel home mid-April-ish when we will pack up and get ready to move to our first duty station. Where will our first duty station be? We have not yet received official orders, but we do know our options. There are currently only 4 bases that house the KC-10. Potential bases are as follows (ranked in the order of preference that Matthew turned in on his "dream list").
1. RAF Mildenhall--Mildenhall, England, UK (approx. 70 miles north of London)
2. McGuire AFB--Wrightstown, NJ
3. Offutt AFB--Omaha, NE
4. Travis AFB--Fairfield, CA
We should know for certain where we will be heading in (hopefully) the next 2-3 weeks. We are hopeful for the UK, as we feel this would be a tremendous opportunity for us to live overseas and would open up so many other doors of opportunity and adventure for us, but will be happy wherever we end up, as long as we are together. We look forward to sharing our first official duty station with you as soon as we become privy to the information.
