Welcome to Cali.

After 2 days of driving (with a stop in the beautiful West Jordan, UT--thanks to Jesse and Tina for their hospitality) and an entire bag of green apple licorice, I finally arrived in California on Saturday afternoon. A big thanks also goes out to my friend, Allyson, who was nice enough to accompany me on the drive. I re-payed her with a trip to Napa, CA, I think she would agree, it made the road trip well worth it.

Matthew is still completing his training, but I decided to drive one of our cars out so that I could spend a few weeks acquainting myself with the area and set up my practicums (student teaching) for the fall. With our official move not until early-mid May, I wanted to give myself plenty of time to meet with the school districts before they let out for the summer.

Allyson, Matthew, Jordan (Matthew's roommate), and I took a nice day trip to Napa on Sunday and had a fun time exploring the wineries. The town of Napa is less than 30 minutes drive from the base, dangerously or wonderfully close depending on how you look at it. :) It was an overcast morning, but clouds gave way to the sun early afternoon, making for a beautiful day in gorgeous Napa Valley.

Our future home....a distant, distant, distant future...in our dreams.

Wine tasting.

Fruit trees are abundant in the area.

Travis AFB is seems like a nice and mostly quiet base located in the beautiful valley of northern California. My first impressions of Fairfield/Vacaville are that it rains a lot in the spring, is very lush and green, and has great proximity to surrounding cities. We are very excited to make this the location of our future home and thrilled to have the cities of Napa, Sonoma, Sacramento, and San Francisco in our backyard.
