I also spoke with Matthew on Sunday for his pre-BEAST phone call. BEAST (Basic Expeditionary Airmen Skills Training) week started on Monday. It consists of a week (Monday through Friday) out in the elements, where the flights are in charge of defending and securing their area during a simulated combat deployment exercise. They basically will use all of the skills that they have learned in training thus far in the simulated country of "Thor." Matthew said that for the most part, the guys were excited for a little healthy competition and to apply their skills, but the weather has been a bit cooler (for Texas), and rainy, so they were not as excited for that part.
He is still in good spirits, but getting anxious for the end. We are almost in the home stretch! It is hard to believe that it has already been 6 weeks. He has learned so much and has made some good friends that will likely last a lifetime.
I can't say it enough, we appreciate everyone's thoughts and support during this time. I know Matthew appreciates all of our friends and family who have been supporting me while he is in training. He takes comfort in knowing that I am staying strong for him in my every day and that I have great friends to support me in the process.
Graduation in 16 days and counting!
