I received a phone call from Matthew the first night of Basic Training (Tuesday, November 1) at approximately 11:45 pm (MST). His recruiter had told him that the first 24 hours of Basic are brutal because they are up for literally 24 hours straight, this phone call proves this to be true, as it was nearly 1:00 am in Texas at the time of this call. Needless to say, this phone call woke me out of my sleep and I found myself most disoriented. Matthew was calling to let me know that he was sending me a letter and I needed to repeat my address back to him after he said it. This was the most bizarre 30-second phone call I have received in a while, but I followed directions (as I assume there was a training instructor over his shoulder), and that was the end of the conversation. Today, I received my "letter," which was a very standard piece of military mail, but included a vital piece of information that I have been anxiously awaiting, his mailing address.

This is the front and back of the postcard. A very military issued form of a "letter."
For those of you who would like to send Matthew mail while he is in Basic Training, here is his address. Please send only letters, as at this point in his training, he is not permitted to receive anything else, so no care packages (yet), the training instructors will just take them.

I know that Matthew would love to hear from you, if you get a chance. It means a lot to him, and me, to know that everyone is thinking about him and supporting him while he is training. Thank you!
