Although we were not able to spend the day together, I take comfort in knowing that Matthew was able to enjoy some relaxation time and a home cooked meal. What an amazing act of kindness and generosity from the people of San Antonio. Matthew and his wingman, Pat, were able to spend the day together at their host family's home for a great Thanksgiving meal. The family was gracious enough to let Matthew use their cell phone to make calls home. We finally were able to spend some quality time on the phone together without a training instructor calling out 1-minute warnings.
Matthew still sounds great! He has been battling an ear/sinus infection, but has been given antibiotics and says he was feeling much better today. He continues to make improvements in his physical training and has been spending a lot of time studying for the written exams he will take in WOT 7. He has received some job counseling and is pretty sure that he will be working on the in-flight aircraft refuelers. I guess that this aircraft has just been redesigned as well, so he is pretty excited to work on this plane. His first tech school will still be at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, TX, but we are still not sure where the second tech school will be. He did say, however, that likely wherever his second tech school is located is where we will be duty stationed when he is through with his training. We are both anxious to find out this information.
It sounds like Matthew is becoming really close with some of the guys in his flight. It makes me happy to know that he is making connections with these guys. He also said that he really enjoys going to church. He sings, claps, and sways with the music, he is really breaking out of his shell.
